Exploring Iceland with Musto

I had the privalige of working with Musto on a shoot in Iceland, my second trip this year meant I was a little more familiar with the locations I planned to shoot at. Shooting there winter Parka range meant I had to find a cold destination for a serious coat, Iceland fit the bill perfectly.

Heres a few of the shots from the 4 day trip exploring the south of the island.

Treepass outdoor shoot in Wales

Tresspass Challenged me to shoot some unique outdoor photos of some of there products. We decided to summit to famous Crib Goch for sunrise, with only 4 hours sleep and a 4am start hiking up in the dark was exciting. Once we had returned from the summit and had breakfast we decided we hadn’t had enough of the amazing Welsh landscape so began planning for sunset. We scrambled up Tryfan late afternoon making it to the top just in time for sunset. followed by a long boring walk back down the back of Tryfan in the dark. where does #Mytresspass take you?

Virtuo Car rental life style shoot

I had the privilege of working alongside Virtuo a new Tech start up company bringing car rental up to speed throughout France and the UK. We worked on a project to create some Autumn UK content for there social and website, heres a few of the results we shot in the Peak District / Sheffield. Combining my love to automotive and lifestyle photography I really enjoyed working on this project and look forward to more in the future.

Snowdonia Trip

Elliot and I decided on a last min trip to Wales, he endured the mega bus from London to Sheffield where I picked him up in my VW T5 before cruising over to Snowdonia National Park in wales. Windy was an understatement, trying to cook dinner out the back of the van in a carpark in the dark was a bit of a task. Sunrise wasn't looking so good so we decided to hike snowdon and aim for the summit for sunset. 50mph gusts and (feels like) -20*C temperatures made the climb pretty brutal along with the snow and ice, glad we brought our crampons) Unfortunatly there wasn't much break in the clouds and we got no light however it was the first time either of had done this hike so it wasn't a waste of time. A fun day out hiking / mountaineering with the bonus of a few snaps on the way up Blue hour on the way down before finishing the decent with head tourch light. we were glad to get back down for around 7pm before warming up and drying out our equipment in a local pub by the fire.

Highlands Trip

We left Sheffield on December 27th for the Highlands on a photography mission during the shortest daylight hours of the year. After an 8 hours drive freezing cold temperatures not much screen wash we arrived at Gelncoe.

Just as I remembered the scenery around here is worth driving up the view from the road alone, after a few snaps on the way we headed for Fort William for some food. Not long after eating I was keen to find a good spot to camp we eventually decided on a layby on the side on the way to Geln Etive behind a fell photographer in his VW T4. Temperatures reached -6*C with harsh winds and snow throughout the night with no heater we were a little chilly. Despite the cold we woke for sunrise to a fresh dusting of snow, one of the most amazing locations I've ever camped. Shortly after driving towards Geln Etive on the very poorly maintained road we hit a pot hole resulting in a pretty loud bang. a knocking noise began to get worse from the front left corner of out T5 as we drove towards Glen Etive. By that evening we realised a spring on our coilovers had snapped resulting in us waiting for the breakdown truck to recover us back to our hotel where we would remain stuck for the next 2 days in the middle of know here with no transport. 4 recovery trucks and 350 miles later we arrived back in Sheffield, not the trip we had hoped for however an amazing one day in Scotland before the van let us down.

You will be glad to know Lenny (Vw T5) has had all new springs and shocks and is running better than ever, ready for attempt 2.

Tentsile Shoot

Kicking off 2018 with another lifestyle shoot for Tentsile in the Peak District just outside Sheffield. Although It looks like a nice summers evening I can confirm it was very cold around -5*C at the start of January when we shot these images. Never the less they will be perfect for the 2018 Safari range. Looking forward to doing some more work with Tentsile this year.

Scarfell Pike Hike -14*C

We embarked on a last min trip to the Lake District Friday evening around 6:30pm, we encountered some snow on the outskirts of Wasdale which caused us some trouble passing the mountain roads in the VW T5 however eventually with caution we made it to Wasedale Head. After spending a long drive we were rewarded by the Milky way over Wast Water Lake which was truly amazing.

A cold nights sleep in the van wrapped up in three Duvets we woke for 6:30am to no breakfast, after forgetting to collect milk on route the night before. 7:15 we started our journey up the mountain. it started a little damp and pretty chilly but nothing too series and easy to see with just a touch and the moon light. Just after the river crossing we came across our first encounter with another camper who had spent the night in a tent on the mountain side, I'm sure he was disappointed to see there was no epic sunrise either just thin cloud at this point.

After a couple of hours of slowly walking up the mountain taking in the last of the views of Wast Water the snow started to get deeper and the temperature began to drop. The last mile of the Hike was fairly brutal with mild winds snow and sleat fall, the snow was around 8" deep at this point and visibility wasn't too good unless we got a very small break in the cloud for seconds at a time. Using the left path after the folk this time we used the stone stack markers to navigate to the summit where once again we were met with nothing but a cloudy view and sub arctic temperatures. it was -14*C at the summit and after resting for only a min or two we soon begin a fast pace back to the bottom.

Overall it was a much more enjoyable hike than the previous trip up Scarfell, the snow sure made it more interesting and photogenic. After a cold and tiring morning we managed to exchange some photography for a nights stay in an amazing Air BnB near Keswick which was the perfect locations for a restful evening, photos in next two blog posts.

Until next time Lake District, we had an amazing weekend, all paid for by photos taken during the trip.
